Finland, the country known for its pure nature and thousands of lakes, is hosting the ISU World Figure Skating Championships in 2017 – on the 100th anniversary of Finland. So that both Finnish and international guests can enjoy our clean environment also in the future, we have improved environmental responsibility in the event through a project we named #EcoHelsinki2017.
Big events always have an impact on the environment. While organizing the event, we have focused especially on material efficiency and the recycling of waste.
From a consumerist viewpoint, events and the immaterial experiences they give us are better for the environment and climate change than buying material goods. Let’s enjoy the competition event from this point of view, too.
Through small actions, every visitor can decrease the environmental load of the event.
You can always come to this sport event by using muscle power, for example by walking or cycling, which also improves your physical condition. Using muscle power even for a part of the journey is a good option.
Choose long-lasting, multiple-use items to buy: for example, buy the Worlds 2017 water bottle and fill it with Helsinki’s clean and good-tasting tap water. Remember it is not allowed to bring your own water bottles in the Arena.
