Finnish composer Lenni-Kalle Taipale creates original score for the Opening Cremony

"When designing the Opening Ceremony we decided to start with the theme of Light", says Tiina of the creative team behind the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. "We created a story that would showcase different forms of light, highlighting the role natural light plays in nature within the Finnish landscape. To lift this story to a new level, we teamed up with the amazing Finnish composer Lenni-Kalle Taipale, who together with Kalle Torniainen has created a complete and original musical score to go with our theme". In Lenni-Kalle’s words, every piece of music in the opening ceremony is “their vision of the theme expressed through musical notes”. Lenni-Kalle is also one of the ambassadors for the Worlds2017.

Join us for the opening ceremonies on Wednesday the 29th of March to experience the amazing show, which features exceptional and original Finnish music designed specifically for the event. In the opening ceremony you will also see a live performance of the official competition song “Light Up the Ice” performed by Diandra. Lenni-Kalle Taipale, Kalle Torniainen, Juha Tapio and Pekka Heino are the musical team behind the official song of the 2017 ISU World Championships in Helsinki.
